"Be the Solution": A Message of Resilience for Future Scientists

"Healing is your responsibility. Growth is your decision... It's on you to become the person you were never shown how to be."
This was the powerful charge delivered by Laura Chao, Chairperson of the SeaVuria Board of Directors, to the 2025 STEM participants. In her address, Chao congratulated students for tackling real-world issues—such as the reliance on firewood for cooking—and challenged them to view themselves as the next generation of problem solvers.
Choosing to Emerge Chao drew a moving parallel between today's students and their ancestors, who faced their own crises ranging from polio to famine. She reminded students that just as previous generations "chose to emerge" through courage and innovation, today's youth must do the same.
While SeaVuria provides the professional skills and the government supports the curriculum, Chao emphasized that the ultimate outcome depends on personal commitment.
Science as a Tool for Change From the invention of penicillin to the development of electricity, Chao highlighted science as the "sure way" to overcome adversity. She urged the students to take ownership of their futures, reminding them that they have everything it takes to emerge victorious.
