This summer, SeaVuria hosted its first Harambee—a Swahili call to “all pull together.” Our Mercer Island and Vashon Island communities came together in an extraordinary spirit of partnership, conversation, and shared purpose.

The evenings celebrated what’s possible when people join forces across oceans and cultures. Local students and educators shared stories and ideas with friends, family, and neighbors, highlighting the impact of collaboration on both sides of the globe.

What We Came Together to Support

  • Teacher Development: Expanding professional learning communities and coaching to shift classrooms toward student-centered, inquiry-based teaching.

  • Technology Integration: Increasing access to devices, connectivity, and rich digital tools that make learning dynamic and interactive.

  • Mentorship & Leadership: Growing programs that inspire confident, compassionate leaders—students and teachers in Kenya and the U.S. alike.

  • STEM Extravaganza: Showcasing student innovation through community-rooted challenges solved with STEM thinking.

  • Scholarship Foundations: Strengthening the structures that sustain scholarships—mentorship, advising, and leadership growth.

Shared Voices, Shared Vision

Hearing directly from our partners in Taita-Taveta reminded everyone of the deep connections at the heart of this work. Their voices carried the same conviction we felt in the room: that education, when supported and nurtured, changes lives.

Gratitude

Thank you to all who gathered, gave, and spread the word. Your generosity powers the everyday moments—a teacher trying a new strategy, a student building confidence, a team collaborating across continents—that move us closer to our shared vision.

Be Part of the Momentum

The spirit of Harambee doesn’t end with one evening.
